The Divine Alliance: Ram's Oath with Sugreev

Hanuman revealed his true form and prostrated himself at Lord Ram's feet. He informed Ram and Lakshman that Sugreev resided on Rishyamook Mountain with his monkey friends, seeking refuge from his tyrannical brother, Bali. Hanuman introduced himself as Sugreev's envoy and expressed Sugreev's desire to form an alliance with Ram. Hanuman explained that he could transform into any shape and travel anywhere and that he had arrived in the guise of a Brahmin as per Sugreev's instructions.

"We were searching for Sugreev," Ram told Lakshman. "But his messenger has already found us. Hanuman appears to be brave and friendly. He is eloquent and knows what to say and when to say it. Lakshman, converse with him."

Upon hearing Ram's words, Hanuman was ecstatic. He believed Ram could help Sugreev regain his freedom and rescue his wife, Ruma, from Bali. However, the mountainous road to reach Sugreev was impassable. So, Hanuman carried the two brothers on his shoulders and flew toward Sugreev.

"Listen, Sugreev," Hanuman said. This is Prince Ram, accompanied by his younger brother, Lakshman. Ram is deeply devoted to his late father and leads a religious life. However, his peaceful life was disrupted when a demon kidnapped his wife, Seeta. Ram seeks your help and wishes to befriend you and Lakshman."

Upon hearing Hanuman's words, Sugreev's suspicions about Ram were dispelled. "Everything Hanuman said about you is true," Sugreev told Ram. "You are devout, dignified, brave, courageous, and a friend to all beings. We are incredibly fortunate that you want to befriend us monkeys. Let's take an oath of friendship," Sugreev proposed. Ram and Sugreev then took an oath of friendship and embraced each other.

“I know you cannot bear being separated from Seeta for much longer,” Sugreev told Ram. “Wherever she is, I shall try to bring her back as soon as possible. You have my word."
