The Bridge to Lanka
"Your role in the construction of this bridge is no less than those of the powerful monkeys," said Ram to the squirrel. "Your contribution to this great task is noteworthy. You may wander without fear."
The bridge to Lanka was ready in five days. It was so magnificent that even the gods came to see it. First, Ram inaugurated the bridge. After that, Lakshman and Sugreev placed their feet on it. Then, the monkey army began to make its way across the bridge. Sometimes, they leaped into the sea out of joy; other times, they walked on the bridge.
The monkey soldiers sang and danced merrily as they crossed the bridge. Their cacophony drowned out the ocean's roar, making it seem as if the ocean itself held its breath as the monkey army passed. Eventually, the monkeys entered Lanka. Ram instructed Lakshman and Sugreev to construct a military base. By this time, the sun had already set, and the moon shone brightly in the sky. The soldiers rested through the night. Ram was delighted by the monkeys' enthusiasm, devotion, and love.
The gods, gandharvas, and rishis were thrilled to witness the magnificent bridge. Lakhs of monkeys jumped up and down on the bridge. Saints and singers began singing songs of the Lord's glory, their voices resonating through the heavens. The monkeys' uproar caused the entire city of Lanka to tremble. After crossing the ocean, Vibheeshan readied his mace, prepared to confront any situation. Meanwhile, Ram, Lakshman, and Sugreev led the monkey army. On the banks of Lanka, abundant trees were laden with fruits and flowers.
With the monkey army's arrival, the demons sensed an impending crisis. Ravan became cautious. He ascended the highest mountain peak with his messengers and bodyguards. From there, he could see Ram's army stretching as far as his vision allowed. He was stunned to see the bridge built by Ram's soldiers.
Ravan called two messengers and instructed them to infiltrate the monkey army and ascertain their numbers, commanders, and strength. He wanted to know how the monkeys had built the bridge and learn about Ram and Lakshman's power, weapons, and strategy. He ordered the messengers to go quickly, gather the information, and report back.
