Sugreev's Neglect and Lakshman's Fury

The wise Hanuman reminded Sugreev of the assurance he had given Ram. Sugreev instructed his commander-in-chief, Nal, to order all monkeys to return to the capital within fifteen days. After that, Sugreev once again indulged in royal luxuries.

Meanwhile, Ram was becoming more restless. "Lakshman, this is the right time for a king to start a military operation," said Ram. "Four months of the rainy season have passed, so the route has dried up. Monkey King Sugreev seems to have forgotten about his promise. Knowing that we are in need, he has turned away from us and is living a life of luxury while I am suffering from Seeta's absence. Please go and remind him not to forget his promise, or else he will meet the same fate as Bali."

Upon hearing Ram's words, Lakshman became agitated. A flame of anger blazed in his mind, and he decided to kill Sugreev. Ram told Lakshman to control his anger and to remind Sugreev about his duty. He also advised Lakshman to tell Sugreev that he must begin this important task as soon as possible, or time would run out.

Lakshman obeyed Ram and set out for Kishkindha, a large city surrounded by mountains. At the city entrance, two monkey watchmen respectfully bowed to Lakshman. Seeing that Lakshman was angry and breathing heavily, the monkeys quickly got out of his way.

Fearing Lakshman's temper, monkeys, bears, and other animals started running helter-skelter. Even Monkey King Sugreev was frightened and did not dare to face Lakshman. Ruma sweetly told Lakshman that her husband, Sugreev, was grateful to Ram and would not forget his promise. This calmed Lakshman down. After this, Sugreev came to Lakshman with folded hands and begged for forgiveness.

"Hanuman, call monkeys from all corners of the world and assemble them here," said Sugreev. "If they don't reach here within ten days, they will be executed for violating a government order."
