Seeds of Destiny: The Discovery of Seeta

Emperor Janak was also known as "Videha." He earned this name because, during meditation, he could transcend the needs of his body. A scholar of the scriptures, he refrained from indulging in pleasures and did not allow worldly matters to influence him. Because of his spiritual discipline, he was sometimes addressed as a Rajarshi.

Once, Emperor Janak undertook a yajna, during which he personally began plowing the land. While doing so, he heard a child's cry. Upon investigating, he discovered a beautiful baby girl lying in the adjacent bushes. Gently, he picked her up and brought her to his wife. The childless couple regarded the baby as a gift from Mother Earth. They named her Seeta and raised her with great affection.
