The Aftermath of Pandu's Death
Pandu died due to Rishi Kindam's curse, leaving behind two wives (Kunti and Madri) and five children (the Pandavas).
The Day the Pandavas Became Fatherless
After Pandu died in Madri's arms, Madri started sobbing helplessly. Kunti tried to console her but ended up mourning Pandu's death herself. The five Pandavas were also stunned by their dear father's untimely death. The rishis of Shatashrung mountain, who educated the boys, tried their best to console them.
Madri's Final Act: A Widow's Self-Immolation
During Pandu's cremation, Madri told Kunti that she wished to burn herself on their husband's funeral pyre. "I am the cause of our husband's death," she said, "so I have no right to live either." She then threw herself onto Pandu's funeral pyre and self-immolated.
Kunti's Journey Home: The Pandavas Return to Hastinapur
Kunti was now left alone with the five Pandavas. The rishis of Shathashrung Mountain advised her to take the five princes and return to Hastinapur.
