The Jackals and the Elephant

A group of jackals spotted an elephant and wished to eat its meat. "I think I know how to kill the elephant," said an old jackal. He then approached the elephant.

"Sir, I am a jackal," said the old jackal. "All the animals have sent me to you. We have decided that you should be crowned king of the jungle. You have all the qualities of a king. Please come with me and take up your royal duties."

The jackal's flattery deceived the elephant. The jackal took the elephant near a lake, where the latter slipped and got trapped in a deep swamp. 

"Help me, my friend", cried the helpless elephant. 

"Sir, you chose to trust an animal like me," said the malicious jackal. "Now, you must pay the price with your life". 

The elephant remained trapped in the mire and died shortly. All the jackals came and feasted upon its meat.
