Emperor Akbar and Beerbal were walking in the royal garden. Seeing some crows playing in the pond, a question arose in the emperor's mind.

"How many crows are in my kingdom?" he asked Beerbal.

Beerbal replied after a little thought. "In our kingdom, there are ninety-five thousand four hundred and sixty-three crows," he said.

Surprised by Beerbal's quick answer, Akbar tried to test him again.

"What if there are more crows than you say there are?" asked the emperor.

"If there are more crows than I have specified, then surely some crows have come from surrounding kingdoms," replied Beerbal without hesitation.

"And if there are fewer crows than you have specified?" asked the emperor.

"Then some crows from our kingdom must have gone to other kingdoms to celebrate the holidays," replied the quick-witted Beerbal.
