The Hen That Laid Golden Eggs

One day, a poor man went to a farmer and bought a bag of rice in exchange for a hen. When the farmer's wife learned about this, she was furious.

Nevertheless, the next day, she found a golden egg when she went near the hen! The magical hen would lay a golden egg every day for several weeks, and the farmer and his wife quickly became the wealthiest people in the village.

Regardless, the farmer's greedy wife was not satisfied. One day, when the farmer was away, she brought a large knife and cut open the hen's stomach. She thought that she would find several golden eggs inside the hen. When she didn't find any eggs, she was disappointed. The hen was dead, and she thus lost the golden egg she used to receive every day.
